Wow, and I thought that Brom was good.
Thanks man! That's some bloody sweet stuff.

Although some pictures (concept wise) remind me of an album-cover of a really bad death metal album.

Frazetta is one of the most inspirational artists I'd come across ! The the largest database of his work is at http://frankfrazetta.org/

I recently bought the Icon frazetta book for cheap off amazon, pretty amazing stuff :). I like the way his characters look quite different to whats common now.

He was the master, he started it all. He taught himself to draw by copying everything in the Bridgeman books front to back til he could draw them from memory. I love the way he didn't have to give you every detail to tell the story and his sense of color and design is outstanding. A lot of the guys today would do well to revisit his work.

Sorry to ressurect this Thread, but last week I finally was able to see a Frazetta Documentary on DVD:

Painting with Fire

If I was already a HUGE FAN of the mans work, after seeing the Documentary I was blown away...

He didnt used any kind of references on is Painting/Drawings, everything was from imagination, majority of is greatests painting were done in 4-5 hours or a single Night.

One time he was the only NON Animator Artist doing a Cartoon comic Book, he could draw in lots of styles, the mastery he made on watercolors and Pen and Ink is simply amazing to say the least.

During the 90's he had a serious hill condition that all doctors told him to be only on hes mind.. later it was discovered it something on the Thyroid, then he had 3 strokes... one of them was almost fatal, although it didnt killed him, it made him almost paralised from is Right side... so what did he do? He learned to Draw and Paint with is Left side... man this is outstanding in my book.

Do youselfs a favor and see the Documentary, a must IMO.

Great link sriramatrix, thanks for that!

I love Frazetta. Nobody paints sexier women, and unlike with a lot of fantasy/pulp work they rarely seem objectified.
